If you talk to any motorcyclist you will immediately be told there is nothing like the feeling of riding your motorcycle. The truth is, it’s a unique feeling that allows you to feel free and removes the stress of the day.
But, there is one experience that all motorcyclists should also try at least once, that’s the track. There are many different events you can try at the track, from full-on racing to a sample experience that just allows you to race around as fast as you feel comfortable doing.
Before you head to the track it is a good idea to be aware of the following things.
Is Your Bike Ready?
Your bike must be in good condition with no fluid leaks or other niggles that could hinder your performance or cause issues for other track users. It is also worth checking the track guidelines as you may need to tape up lights and reflectors or even remove your mirrors.
When you start looking at your bike you may start to think it is time for a change and you could invest in one of the best KTM bikes currently available.
Don’t forget that your bike will be inspected when it arrives at the track, make sure it fully complies.
Get Yourself Ready
It’s not just your bike that has to be properly presented. Race tracks take safety very seriously and you won’t be able to ride unless you have the right riding gear. It is best to contact the track officials before race day to confirm what is obligatory, that will ensure you have all the right gear and are allowed to race on the day.
There Will Be Someone Faster
There is always a faster rider and this is especially true if it is your first day at the track. Don’t see them as the benchmark and try to pace them, this will almost certainly result in your bike sliding down the tarmac.
Instead, chat with these riders and see what tips you can get from them. Chances are they know the track and their advice can help you get around faster or smoother.
Pack Your Earplugs
There is no doubt that the race track is a loud place. Many bikes run racing exhaust systems and these are not designed to dampen sound. Engines are also being revved and repaired at all times. In short, you need earplugs to protect your eardrums and your sanity. Make sure you have some with you
You Are Not Alone
It can be daunting going to the track for the first time but it is one thing everyone has in common, they have all been where you are. That means other riders are generally friendlier to new riders and will offer you valuable advice. Don’t be afraid to take then advice and ask as many questions as you want. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn and, in the future, pass on your own knowledge.
