Every year, Raksha Bandhan brings with itself a joy of festivity and shopping. One clearly sees the light of excitement on the local and supermarkets. And with every passing year, the sale cap around the occasion of Raksha Bandhan is increasing. There was a time when people only shop for rakhi threads and sweets one or two days before the occasion, but today, people shop for every possible thing.

And the main reasons behind this are the trends, social media, and sale offers from the brands and the shopkeepers. From television to newspapers, every possible media advertises for the discount offers. Apart from that, people love to follow a trend triggered by celebrities and also like to flaunt their new buy over social media.

Well, whatever is happening is great as everyone is happy. From our point of view, people are more excited today than ever before about celebrating Raksha Bandhan and shopping for the same. And that excitement is good as it fosters the bonds. From small stalls to big shops and to those in shopping malls, people keep coming for shopping without a break in the festive week. Today, apart from Rakhi threads and sweets, people shop for things like rakhi gifts, clothes, designer rakhi thali, and props to decorate the home.
With technological advancement, online shopping websites witnessed immense growth supported by their services, and heavy discount offers under the name Raksha Bandhan festival. There is no pint of shopping for items like washing machines and hand grinders on Raksha Bandhan, but people do that in awe of the offers. Sellers provide discounts and free offers to clear their stock and people buy products as they feel like money-saving. It’s a win-win situation for both.

Traditional sweets too have found their alternate in chocolate as brands like Cadbury & Nestle do heavy promotion for their special chocolate boxes arranged for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. And one reason why their commercials are making a huge impact is the increasing cases of raids on sweet shops for being fraudulent about the quality and use of chemical products to produce more milk. People started to believe that it’s better to munch on chocolates to commemorate the festival rather than eating fake and unhealthy sweets.

One more sound reason for increased shopping on the festival of Raksha Bandhan is ‘online gifting portals’. They have started selling different types of rakhis, combos, gifts, and genuine service of delivering the products. Online gifting portals provide a wide range of designs in rakhi and some creative and unique gifts which are not available in the local market. Who would have thought of sending a bouquet of flowers as a rakhi gift to a sister two decades ago? But today, people are doing that, and it is helping them strengthen the bond.

Increased shopping on the festival of Raksha Bandhan is only helping brothers and sisters to stay close to each other and make each other smile with surprises. The time is near when the markets will look like a bride on a wedding day, and the crowd will be wandering around for the festive shopping.
