How can video files get corrupt?
There are different reasons which can cause corruption of DJI files. The most common reasons are as follows:
- Any abrupt shut down while using the drone to record may cause corruption in the footage.
- If the storage, like the SD card, gets disconnected abruptly due to improper connection or forced removal, it can corrupt DJI files.
- Exposure to extreme conditions like very high or low temperatures can affect the hardware and cause corruption in the files.
- Your SD card may be damaged and cannot be read due to malware or virus attacks.
- Any kind of external interruptions or software crashes.
How you can repair DJI videos
We recommend that you take necessary precautions and record videos while keeping the reasons for DJI file corruption in mind. However, in case your DJI files get corrupted due to unfavorable circumstances, here are different ways in which you can repair corrupt DJI files.
1. Repair DJI videos using Command Prompt.
One of the best ways to restore corrupt footage is to use Command Prompt. It is a terminal available in every Windows operating system where we can execute different commands and perform administrative tasks.
Here are the ways in which you can fix DJI files using Windows Command Prompt.
- Open the Start menu and type CMD in the search bar. Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator on the pop-up menu.
- On the Command Prompt window, type this code:
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
This command detects the presence of any corrupt videos present in the computer. This will take some time, depending on the storage space and speed. - After the previous command is completed, type sfc /scannow on the command terminal. This will activate the System File Checker, which would scan these corrupt videos and fix them. This process is also going to take some time, so be patient.
- After the process gets completed, you will get any of the following messages:
- a. “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”: – It means the OS was not able to find any corrupt video files in your device.
- If the results say, “Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.” That means you will need to perform the SFC process again but in safe mode.
- If the results say, “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.” – that means the computer has found and repaired the DJI files.
- If CMD returns “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.” – that means the videos are way too damaged, and Windows could not fix it. In situations like this, you need to use external software to repair DJI video files.
