Early Life
Guest’s parents were American Jean Pauline Hindes, CBS’s casting VP, and British Peter Haden-Guest, a UN diplomat who later became the 4th Baron Haden-Guest. Leslie, Baron Haden-Guest, was Guest’s paternal grandfather.
He became a Jewish convert after becoming a member of the Labour Party. The Guest’s grandpa belonged to the Jewish Goldsmid family of the Netherlands through his father’s side.
Colonel Albert Goldsmid was her father, a British officer and founder of the Maccabees and the Jewish Lads’ and Girls’ Brigade.
Jewish Russians who emigrated made up the Guest’s maternal grandparents. Since Guest’s parents had given up their religious beliefs, so he did not grow up in a religious household. David, his uncle, died in the Spanish Civil War in 1938. While lecturing, David was an active member of the Communist Party.
Guest’s father spent part of his childhood in the United Kingdom, where he was born. He honed his classical clarinet skills at the Stockbridge School in the Massachusetts town of Interlaken. As a student at the High School of Music and the Arts in New York City, Christopher Guest’s artistic talents began to flourish.
His interest in country music grew, and he began playing guitar with his Stockbridge School friend Arlo Guthrie after that. He also began to play the mandolin. In the following sets, Guest switched to rock and roll from bluegrass. Guest spent one year at Bard College.
