Wicked Part 1 will come out on November 22, 2024, while the release date for Wicked Part 2 has already been announced and is right around the corner. The filmmakers have announced the release of Wicked: Part 2 on November 21, 2025.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, best known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians, the film is based on the acclaimed stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, which itself is an adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s novel, which reimagines the background of the characters from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
In Wicked, Ariana Grande plays the role of Galinda Upland, while her frenemy Cynthia Erivo plays the role of Elphaba Throop. The character Galinda Upland (Ariana Grande) appears to be making strides throughout the plot, while Elphaba Throop, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo, eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.
The project has been worked on for quite some time, as there have been talks of a movie adaptation since 2012. In early 2024, shooting was scheduled to commence after being postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and labor bouts in the movie industry.
