Did you know that comedy is the favorite movie genre of America? This is probably the reason that all genres, Adventure, Action, Romance, are integrating with Comedy so that audiences are hooked up to the screen. While everyone loves comedy movies, have you ever thought of the science behind this? If not, this is your lucky day as we are going to dissect why we love watching comedy movies more than any other movie genre.

According to Proverbs 17:22, ‘A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.’

During the 1300s, a professor of surgery, Henri de Mondeville, introduced humor as a post-operative therapy.

A professor and journalist, Norman Cousins, in his book Anatomy of an Illness (1979), discusses how he cured himself with laughter therapy.

In 1995, Dr. Madan Kataria established the first laughter club that showcased laughter yoga. Following his trend, there are now more than 5,000 laughter clubs around the globe.

So the question arises, why is laughter so important?

The University of Michigan has found that only twenty seconds of laughter have the same effect on lungs as three minutes of rowing. Many other studies have pointed out that laughter during movies releases positive chemicals in the human brain that helps individuals to break patterns of sleep loss, pain, immunosuppression, and depression.

Comedy movies are so much popular among the masses as they allow individuals to feel fresh from the inside, benefit health aspects, and release endorphins with calming and euphoric effects.

On such accounts, we have formulated a list of the best comedies that you should watch this weekend for an extra dose of peace and serenity. You can stream these movies online via streaming platforms, or enjoy them on your cable TV.
